Cherie Blair sues News of the World - Graham Atkins

 

Cherie Blair has launched libel proceedings against the News of the World following an article that claimed she was engaged in a "secret feud" with Gordon Brown's wife, Sarah.

 

Blair is demanding an apology and damages over the piece, headlined "War of Silence: Cherie's Secret Feud with PM's Sarah", which appeared in the News International-owned paper on January 27 this year.

The wife of former prime minister Tony Blair has instructed law firm Atkins to represent her.

Her case is being dealt with by Graham Atkins, who founded the firm nearly two years ago.

Atkins has previously represented the Blairs in a number of cases, including the winning of "substantial damages" from Associated Newspapers in November last year for infringement of privacy.

 

He told MediaGuardian.co.uk: "It is often necessary for Atkins to take action against newspapers in relation to untrue or invasive stories about our client Cherie Blair.

 

"Generally these are resolved before proceedings are issued and for a claim to get to this stage demonstrates just how concerned and angered Cherie was by the News of the World story." Read more---->>>>>

  Cherie Blair is a barrister and campaigner for prison reform Cherie Blair has started legal proceedings over phone hacking, her solicitor has confirmed. The wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, herself a prominent barrister, launched a claim on Tuesday. Mrs Blair's solicitor Graham Atkins confirmed a claim had been made "in relation to the unlawful interception of her voicemails". She is thought to be suing News Group Newspapers, but a News International spokeswoman declined to comment. The now-defunct News of the World (NoW) was published by News Group, part of News International, which is a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. Governor Settles Lawsuit - Graham Atkins

Arnold Schwarzenegger has settled a lawsuit in London brought by a former British TV host who accused the governor of fondling her and later said the governor’s aides had smeared her reputation, attorneys for both sides said Friday. Anna Richardson, a former late-night personality, sued Schwarzenegger and two of his top aides in London’s High Court in May 2004. She accused them of falsely saying she had forced herself on Schwarzenegger and said the accusation was intended to protect his “ruthless political ambition” during the 2003 recall. In the final week of that turbulent campaign, Richardson was among several women who told The Times that Schwarzenegger had groped them in the past.
